Alton Towers Dungeons Open

The Alton Towers Dungeon have opened to the public today, replacing the old Charlie and the chocolate factory. The Alton Towers Dungeon is the 11th attraction to be currently operating under the worldwide “Dungeons” brand. Other locations include, London, Amsterdam, Shanghai and San Francisco to name a few.
Edit: We had to opportunity to visit the new Alton Towers Dungeons and we had a blast! Throughout the experience we had laughs and scares, and the whole team enjoyed the theatrical experience.
If you haven’t visited a dungeon before, we highly recommend a visit.

The Alton Towers website has been updated with more information about the new Dungeons attraction. Just like the other Dungeons sites, the website has been updated with the route you will take through the attraction. Starting with The Judge and finishing with The Haunting. Entry into The Dungeons is not included with park tickets.

1) THE JUDGE
FUN! THRILLS! LAUGHTER! All unforgivable in the eyes of the puritanical Justice of the Peace, the bombastic Bishop of Stafford! Take the stand in his courtroom and plead your case. In fact… it doesn’t matter, you are all peasants! GUILTY!
2) THE BLACK RIVER BOAT RIDE
You are guilty! So you are going on a little trip down the black river beneath Alton Towers. Step into the boat and take in the sights and… errr… smells of the Alton Towers Dungeons. Say hi to some of the Dungeons residents… don’t worry if they don’t wave… they’re a little tied up!
3) THE TORTURER
He has ways of making you talk… he has even more ways to make you SHUT UP! Take a seat in the Torturers chair and come face to face… or red hot poker to nostril with all the Torturers favourite devices. You’ll be screaming with laughter in no time at all.
4) THE HIGHWAYMAN
The most desperate, dashing and despicable highwayman needs hideouts all over the country. Who would have thought one would have been round the corner from Alton Towers? Pull up a chair and meet the friendly owners of the Welsh Harp Inn, nothing is TOO MUCH TROUBLE! You never know… Dick Turpin might just shoot by!
5) THE PLAGUE DOCTOR
For those of you who want to get knee deep… or even up to the elbows in the past, let me introduce you to the Plague Doctor. Gather round as we get to the GUTS of the bubonic plague, you could even get hands on! No experience necessary… must have a strong stomach!
6) THE HAUNTING
Take shelter from the storm in an abandoned cottage. Have you wondered why the cottage is abandoned? What dark and terrible story can these walls tell? Don’t stay for too long… you never know who might appear out of the darkness!

Alton Towers Dungeon Tickets Released

Tickets for the Alton Towers Dungeon have gone on sale today. Costing £5 online or £7.50 on the day your laugh and scream all the way through the Dungeon.
As of posting this news article Alton Towers are saying the Dungeon is NOT included in the Merlin Annual Passes. However, if you buy a Premium Season Pass at Alton Towers you get one free visit a day. We expect this decision to be u-turned however only time will tell.

Alton Towers Dungeons Work Continues

Work on removing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory continues at Alton Towers, the old pre-show to Charlie now looks to have been completely gutted ready for what will be the Alton Towers Dungeon. Since our last visit to the park new advertisement boards have been installed around the park along with a few boards being installed at the resort hotels.
Upon exit from the park and check-in into the hotels, vouchers advertising the Alton Towers Dungeons are being given out. A photo of one can be found below. There are multiple designs to the cards, all faces of characters on the cards are from the Dungeons brand. It is currently unknown if the Alton Dungeons will be free or a paid upcharge attraction.
Advertising campaign begins

The advertising campaign begins at Alton Towers during Scarefest 2018. Signs advertising various scenes of the dungeons are posted around the park as well as "face masks" being handing out at the entrance / exit of the park towards the end of the day, much like we have seen for previous new projects such as car windows stickers for 2018's "Wicker Man" and 2013's "The Smiler".
The main thing to note from the promotional item is that there is mention of an upcharge to experience the dungeon, which means it will not be including within standard admission. This will be similar to The Tower Dungeon at Warwick Castle, who charge extra to enter the attraction but do allow premium annual pass holders to enter the attraction free of charge, however, it is unclear whether a similar system will apply for Alton Towers.
The start of the advertising campaign gives us a hint to at least five of the scenes we can expect to experience in The Alton Towers Dungeon, the five characters being:
- The Highwayman
- The Judge
- The Haunting
- The Torturer
- The Plague Doctor
Most of these scenes and characters are already present in a lot of the dungeons already present in the various locations across the globe.
Work on removing Charlie continues

Work continues on the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory building rumoured to be the location for a dungeons style attraction set to open for Alton Towers' 2019 season.
Merlin Magic Making have been seen on site and various theming from the attraction has been moved outside such as the framed photo of Augustus Gloop, as well as signs for loading onto the boat portion of the ride. The location of The Alton Towers Dungeon is yet to be announced by the park since the initial trademark filing, however, the new attraction is expected to be announced before the end of the 2018 season.
Alton Towers Begins Removing Charlie

There had been several rumours that there was activity around the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory building so we took a visit to Alton Towers to check it out.
Around the building, there have been various signs moved outside the building and the facade for Twirling Toadstools that has been marked for TLC for the 2018 season has appeared around the area. Also leant against the building are queue line fences that were once within and outside the attraction.
