Thorpe Park Confirms Permanent Closure of Rumba Rapids

Thorpe Park
Thursday 12th March 2026

Thorpe Park has officially confirmed that Rumba Rapids will not be returning and has now closed permanently.

After weeks of rumours sparked by the ride’s pumps being removed and boats being moved into storage on one of the islands the park today confirmed the news on social media.

Rumba Rapids first opened in 1987 and was manufactured by Intamin Worldwide. For decades it was a classic at the park, giving guests a chance to cool off while spinning through the unpredictable rapids.

While it’s always sad to see a long-standing ride leave the park, the space it occupied is huge and offers some exciting possibilities for the future. The area could easily support a brand new themed zone with new rides, food outlets, and facilities like toilets, expanding the park even further. Not to mention, the location offers some incredible views of Stealth.

It will likely be a while before we see what replaces Rumba Rapids, but if Thorpe Park uses the space well, the wait could definitely be worth it.

Thanks for the memories, Rumba Rapids.
