Located within the Towers, The Sanctuary was a psychological horror maze that invited guests to step inside a place of supposed care and recovery. Disguised as a calm, clinical facility, the experience slowly unravelled into something far more disturbing — a maze of control, compliance, and a Doctor whose treatments blurred the line between help and harm.
The attraction also served as a key piece of promotional storytelling for The Smiler, teasing its themes of enforced happiness and psychological manipulation ahead of the roller coaster’s opening. What began as reassurance quickly became unease, as guests realised this was not a place to be cured… but conditioned.
“Is life a burden? Are things getting you down? Lost your smile? Then check yourself in for a refreshing check-up at The Sanctuary.
Book your appointment, get yourself comfortable… the Doctor will see you now.”
Once admitted, escape was never guaranteed.
