Guests attending a recent behind-the-scenes tour at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort were given an exciting glimpse into the park’s long-term future. During a special experience for holders of the Merlin Annual Pass Platinum, park representatives outlined a series of major upgrades and developments planned over the coming years.
The announcements revealed that the resort is preparing for significant capital investment, with ambitious plans to refresh, upgrade and expand the park throughout the rest of the decade.
A Park-Wide Refresh by 2031
One of the biggest takeaways from the tour was the scale of the park’s refurbishment programme. According to information shared with attendees, every themed land at LEGOLAND Windsor is planned to be refurbished by 2031.
This long-term strategy aims to modernise the resort while keeping the park’s iconic LEGO theming fresh and immersive for future generations of visitors.
New Roller Coaster Planned for Vikings’ River Splash Site
A major new attraction is planned for the former site of the popular rapids ride in the Viking area.
Vikings' River Splash closed in 2023, and the space is now expected to make way for a brand-new roller coaster. Plans discussed during the tour suggest the attraction could feature a major intellectual property tie-in, potentially bringing a large-scale themed experience to the area.
While further details have not yet been officially confirmed, this would represent one of the park’s biggest new ride additions in years.
Pirate Shores Refurbishment
The Pirate Shores area is also set to receive a significant upgrade as part of the investment programme.
Planned improvements include:
24 new LEGO models
A complete replacement of the land’s flooring
Refurbishment of surrounding buildings
Restoration of the gold wash feature
There are also discussions about introducing night-time offerings in the land, which could open the door to special evening events or extended experiences in the future.
Knights’ Kingdom Upgrades
Another iconic area receiving attention will be Knights’ Kingdom.
Enhancements planned for the land include:
36 brand-new LEGO models
A full repaint of the castle
Installation of a large dragon model on the outside of the castle
These updates aim to strengthen the fantasy theming of the land and enhance the visual impact for guests entering the area.
Resort Hotel Improvements
The investment plans extend beyond the park gates, with the resort’s accommodation also receiving a major refresh.
A multi-million pound refurbishment is planned for the resort hotels, which will include:
New furniture
Upgraded mattresses and bedding
Updated TVs
Additional plug sockets and modern amenities
The improvements are designed to bring the hotels up to modern standards and improve the overall guest stay experience.
New Land Planned for Former Sky Ride Area
Another future development discussed during the tour involves the area once home to the park’s former skyride attraction.
This site is expected to be redeveloped into a new themed land, which will reportedly include a new attraction and a brand-new 4D cinema.
Although specific themes and timelines have not yet been confirmed, the project would represent another major addition to the park’s offering.
Looking Ahead
The plans revealed during the Merlin Annual Pass Platinum tour highlight a long-term vision for the future of LEGOLAND Windsor. With large-scale refurbishments, new attractions and significant investment in guest facilities, the resort appears set for one of the most ambitious development periods in its history.
