Scorpion Express Gone or Returning?

Chessington World Of Adventures
Wednesday 7th August 2024

Scorpion Express at Chessington World of Adventures closed back in July 2022 due to technical issues. Despite some reports of a fire in the front car of the rollercoaster, no official reason around the reason why the ride was closed in the first place has surfaced.

Since the ride closed just over 2 years ago, the rollercoaster has been seen testing multiple times. The ride closure calendar on the Chessington website has never changed. Scorpion Express is "Closed until further notice"

During a visit to the park a few days ago we spotted some of the trains for the rollercoaster are still on the track with the front of the rollercoaster also spotted on the floor of the ride area. Trains for the ride are visible from the public path and restaurant around the area.

Will Scorpion Express ever reopen?

It doesn’t look that way.

The ride has remained closed for just over two years now and signage for the ride has started to be removed. The old queue times display board has recently been removed. Work on landscaping in the area continues to keep the ride area safe. It appears a tree that has recently fallen by the exit of the ride has been chopped up. But that’s the only activity we’ve seen in the area recently.

What if Scorpion Express doesn’t reopen?

The space that Scorpion Express takes up is a great development space. If this ride was removed along with some more of the buildings around the area the park could build a fantastic wooden rollercoaster. Or, maybe a new RMC Mouse coaster could fit this footprint nicely.

Scorpion Express, Runaway Mine Train… it was fun! Hopefully, we hear some official news soon.
