Drayton Manor has officially confirmed the new name of Shockwave, the park's iconic Stand-up rollercoaster which closed at the end of 2023 to see an addition of new, sit-down trains as opposed to stand-up position, which had been in operation since the ride opened in 1994.

'The Wave' is now the new name of the rollercoaster, which will bring in a new audience of thrill-seekers, as with the new trains and riding position, the ride can now operate with a height restriction of 1.2m, as opposed to 1.4m before the changes.

In the announcement, the park confirmed the new height restriction and trains and mentioned they will be adding a few new effects and the ride is now being branded as "The UK's most thrilling family coaster".

The announcement also came with some concept art, showing off the new yellow-coloured trains, which feature lap bar restraints, as well as showing that the rides station, as well as the track itself, will remain unchanged, with the track retaining its light blue colour and the station keeping its bright, orange and yellow facade, which was redone in 2021 as part of the 'Adventure Cove' retheme of the area. The area will see some additional theming though with an enhancement to the area's coastal vibe and going for a more tropical feel.

No official opening date has been confirmed, except for the spring season this year, but we look forward to riding 'The Wave' when it opens.
