Thorpe Park Closed Season Update Slammer Removal Underway

Thorpe Park
Friday 31st January 2025

The off-season work at Thorpe Park is well underway, and there are plenty of changes happening across the park. From ride maintenance to major removals, here's everything we've spotted during our latest visit.

Looking across the lake, work on Vortex is still ongoing, and the Colossus repainting project continues. The blue shipping containers housing the painters remain in place, showing that there's still plenty of work left to do on the iconic coaster.

Taking a stroll down Monks Walk, there's good news for Samurai fans – the ride is now fully back together, with its counterweights reinstalled and the cars back in place. A section of Colossus track has also been freshly repainted, and comparing photos from previous visits, the difference is noticeable.

However, the biggest change in this area is the removal of Slammer. The once-mighty ride is finally being dismantled, with its lifting cables now cut—signaling the end of its time at the park. Just yesterday, parts of the structure were seen being taken down, though the towering supports remain standing… for now. A cordon appears to be in place around the ride, and a blue scrap container has been spotted on-site, likely for the disposal of removed parts. How much longer will Slammer be standing? Only time will tell.

A few weeks ago, we saw one of Nemesis Inferno’s supports getting sandblasted, and now it has been fully repainted back to its original color scheme—looking fresher than ever! Meanwhile, scaffolding has appeared on the transfer track, likely for more maintenance work. Workers were also spotted entering the ride area, hinting at more updates to come.

Elsewhere, work continues on Rumba Rapids, with no signs of it being completed just yet. Over at Hyperia, a rope is now seen dangling from the lift hill, while a metal device—used by engineers to check the track gauge—has been spotted on the exit steps.

Excitingly, The Swarm was spotted testing yesterday, marking a key moment in the park's preparations for reopening. Seeing one of the park’s major coasters in motion again is a great sign that things are progressing well for the 2025 season.

With so much work still left to be done, it’s clear that the team at Thorpe Park is working hard to get everything ready. We can’t wait to step back into the park and experience all the changes for ourselves!
