Located on the coast Kent, Dreamland Margate is a vintage theme park. Ranging from vintage rides, roller coasters, roller disco, and street food its the perfect location to relax and have fun with your friends and family. Opened in 1880 and established in 1920 the park has heritage built into its roots.
Its main attraction, The Scenic Railway first opened in 1920 and is the oldest wooden rollercoaster in the UK. Unlike other wooden rollercoasters found around the world, Scenic Railway is powered by two cable lift hills and is controlled by a brakeman sat in the middle of the train. Listed as a grade two attraction as part of English Heritage the ride can’t be removed. The ride was non-operational from 2006 until 2015 where the park was closed for some time and a section of the ride was burnt down following an arson attack.
The park has a great line up of attractions, three thrilling rollercoasters, one a wooden rollercoaster, the other a kids apple coaster where children can take there first roller coaster ride and the other a spinning rode like sonic spinal at Alton Towers Resort. Along with these rides, the park has a great collection of flat rides, an old school waltzer ride, Chair-o-plane, a rainbow slide, Cyclone Twist and old school Dodgems to name a few. If rollercoasters and fairground attractions aren’t your cup of tea, a ride on the Ferris Wheel in the middle of the park offers guests a great view of the local area and seafront.
Located in the centre of the park is the Dreamland Stage, where throughout the year the park puts on events such as DJ’s and other acts. Something we found quite nice and relaxing was the entire of the square was astroturfed. Making it the perfect place for picnics and getting food from the food vans dotted around the area. Unlike other theme parks, we’ve done in the past all of the food vans and signage was unique. In one corner you had Pizza, Fish and Chips and the other Hot Dogs and other sweet treats.
Dreamland Margate is a great little theme park if visited on a sunny day is the perfect place to relax with friends and family. You could easily spend a full day at the park and not get bored. We really enjoyed the mixture of new to old rides in the park. And the roller disco section at the front of the park is something you don’t often see anymore. Especially not at a theme park!
We highly recommend visiting Dreamland Margate if you haven’t visited before.
