Tulleys Shocktober Fest 2024 Review: 28 Years of Terror and Thrills
We try to visit Tulleys Shocktober Fest every 2-3 years to keep things fresh, and 2024 didn’t disappoint. Running on selected nights from October 4th, this scream park remains a premier Halloween destination, offering a thrilling mix of old favorites and exciting new additions. This year, we were impressed by the updates to the mazes and the overall atmosphere.
Electrick Circus still brings the chaos with Sparky the Clown and his undead crew. A few more animatronics and actors have been added, making the maze more intense, but the hilarious ending where you walk through a clown's button remains a crowd-pleaser.
DoomTown is an award-winning haunt that transports you to a world stuck in the past, complete with eerie recreations of old shops like Blockbuster. The set design and actors' costumes are top-tier, creating a truly immersive experience.
Wastelands Penitentiary continues to be our favorite maze. The chaotic energy of the prisoners, combined with the strobe-light finale, keeps you on edge the entire time. Outside, the prison courtyard show every 15 minutes adds another layer of excitement, especially with characters like "Baby" who keeps you entertained—but don’t mess with his teddy!
The Haunted Hayride always delivers, and this year featured new characters and sets, including a massive church. The interactive nature of the ride, with actors boarding the tractor, is a highlight. Great costumes and fantastic sets make this a must-do.
Chop Shop is a chainsaw lover’s dream, filled with surprises at every turn. If chainsaws make you nervous, maybe skip this one, but the massive layout and constant actor appearances make it a thrilling maze.
Hell-ements offers a sensory deprivation experience, with bags over your head for most of the journey. While the idea is fun at first, the bag-on-head experience goes on a bit too long, and we felt the unmasked section at the end was shorter than in past years.
The Creepy Cottage, while nostalgic, feels outdated. The costumes and theming are still solid, but it’s time for a refresh. This legacy maze could use an update to match the standards of the newer attractions.
The Cellar is one of the first mazes guests tackle, and it gets busy early on. The jump scare involving a snake on the hill always gets people, and the detailed theming keeps the adrenaline pumping.
New for 2024, The Carving and Purgatory brought fresh excitement. The Carving has a Purge-like vibe with lots of outdoor scenes, great costumes, and a fresh story, though it tends to attract long queues due to its central location. Purgatory is a unique maze where groups carry lanterns that change brightness, adding an eerie, interactive touch as you navigate a nun-themed haunted house.
Coven Of Thirteen continues to impress with its outdoor setting and spooky green laser effects. The actors hiding in the smoke make for some great jump scares, and the cozy log fires outside add a charming touch to the waiting area.
Finally, the new CarnEvil Cabaret live show was a fun addition, with dark burlesque and stunts that thrill. Hosted by CampDracula, the show is entertaining but could use a refresh next year, as it felt a bit repetitive after the first watch.
Overall, Tulleys Shocktober Fest 2024 is a blast. The new mazes are fantastic additions, and the variety of shows and haunts means there’s something for everyone. With so much to do, we highly recommend getting a Fast Track pass to ensure you can enjoy everything without rushing. Happy 28th birthday, Tulleys—we’re excited to see what’s in store for the big 30th celebration!
