Pleasure Beach Resort Confirms May 7 Opening for Launch Pad

Blackpool Pleasure Beach Resort has today confirmed the official opening date for its newly reimagined Launch Pad attraction. The high-thrill ride will open to the public on Wednesday, 7th May, offering a redefined experience for visitors with enhanced performance, a bold new aesthetic, and an immersive theme.

Formerly known as Ice Blast, the 210-foot vertical launch ride has undergone a significant transformation. The updated attraction now propels riders skyward at speeds of up to 80mph, delivering powerful G-forces, moments of weightlessness, and a dramatic freefall descent. The redesign features a vibrant red and blue colour scheme and introduces a new space exploration theme, aligning with the resort’s current phase of innovation and redevelopment.

“We are delighted to be unveiling Launch Pad to our guests this May,” said Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort. “This reimagining is the result of months of dedicated work by our in-house teams and partners, who have demonstrated extraordinary creativity and technical expertise. From 7th May, thrill-seekers will have the chance to experience one of the most powerful launch rides in the UK.”

The centrepiece of the redevelopment is the installation of a state-of-the-art 210-foot pneumatic cylinder operating at 105 PSI. This significant increase in pressure enhances kinetic energy, resulting in a more intense and accelerated ride experience. According to Karl Murphy, Director of Engineering at Pleasure Beach Resort, “The higher pressure directly contributes to increased speed and force, enabling a more exhilarating launch than ever before.”

The extensive upgrade was delivered predominantly by the Resort’s in-house team of mechanical and electrical engineers, painters, artists, and project managers, with technical support from U.S.-based manufacturer S&S during the installation of the new ride system.
