Thorpe Park 2019 Closed Season Roundup

Thorpe Park
Wednesday 27th February 2019

Its crunch time at Thorpe Park, the rides have been stripped down for winter checks and have been reassembled. Staff have started training on the finished rides with some not quite ready yet. During a quick monks walk visit we saw Colossus sending empty trains along with Stealth launching a train.

With the park doing closed season updates on their social media channels every Friday for the past 11 weeks there are some things they appear to have left out! Such as Tidal Wave is going to receive a new sponsorship this year. It would appear that the ride will now be sponsored by drinks brand Oasis. Yesterday a large crane was hovering over the tidal wave area. Looking closer at the last update on the parks closed season update series you can see there is no bridge connecting Tidal Wave to the guest viewing bridge. So we would expect this crane was installing a new bridge for the ride.

Zodiac has started to be put back together with all of the cars for the ride located around the plaza that used to house The Big Top. Vortex now has its arms back, the last time we saw the ride all of the arms and seats had been removed. The Rocky Express also appears to still be undergoing maintenance, the large central theming for the ride can still be seen outside the old Loggers Leap entrance. Some of the queue line exit for Nemesis Inferno has been given a fresh lick of red paint, along with some of the fence currently being replaced. It would also appear that there still work going on in the Nemesis station, scaffolding can be seen inside the station still, a train of test dummies can also be spotted.

Interestingly, the Bush BBQ Pizza Buffet restaurant appears to be having some work done to it again. It's unclear if it's being removed or possibly just a rebrand. At the end of the season last year the boats on Rumba Rapids where upgraded with some new safety measures, it would appear that all of the old boats have now been sent off to Merlin HQ to get these modifications done. The only boats that remain are those with safety upgrades.

A closed season update wouldn’t be complete without talking about Loggers Leap. It appears Thorpe Park have begun removing CCTV cameras from the ride. We expect that over the course of this year the ride will be removed ready for something new. Some people appear to have walked down monks walk recently and put up posters saying “WE (WANT) RMC”

And of course, we throw in some pretty photos of the park from across the lake!
