The Noah's Ark at Kennywood is a historic walk-through funhouse and the last operating Noah’s Ark in the world. It first opened in 1936, during a time when “funhouses” were a major part of amusement parks across the United States. These attractions were designed to combine simple mechanical tricks with playful illusions—tilting floors, spinning barrels, wobbling bridges, and sudden air blasts—to entertain and surprise visitors of all ages.
Originally, the Noah’s Ark funhouse concept became popular on American and European piers and amusement parks in the 1920s and 1930s. Kennywood’s version was built to capture that chaotic, whimsical energy and quickly became a staple of the park. Over the decades, it has been carefully maintained and updated to keep the mechanics running, preserving its vintage charm while still offering the full experience of a classic funhouse.
While there were other Noah’s Ark funhouses—like one at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK—those have long since closed. Kennywood’s ark is now the only one left in the world where visitors can actually go inside and experience the historic funhouse antics, making it a rare living piece of amusement park history.
