Alton Towers Scarefest 2024

Alton Towers Scarefest is back for 2024, and it’s bigger, bolder, and eerier than ever. Right from the entrance, a new spooky one-car installation on Towers Street sets the tone for what lies ahead—adding a fun, creepy photo opportunity and an extra touch of Halloween spirit to the start of your day.

With two brand new attractions joining the line-up and several returning favourites, this year’s event offers something for thrill-seekers, families, and Halloween lovers alike.

Compound – NEW for 2024

Located in a series of shipping containers between the Curse at Alton Manor and Forbidden Valley, Compound is a brand-new maze that takes guests deep into the world of The Phalanx. Starting in an isolated pod, you’re shown a video briefing that quickly descends into chaos. From there, guests are taken one by one—backwards—into a maze filled with multiple routes, disorienting environments, and immersive theming that’s both impressive and intense. It evoked strong memories of Sub Species: The End Games, which is high praise. One of our absolute favourites this year, and an exciting addition to the Scarefest line-up.

Amigos in the Afterlife – NEW for 2024

Taking over the former Alton Towers Dungeons space, this new family-friendly attraction was a delightful surprise. Despite visiting as a group of adults, we found ourselves laughing, solving clues, and singing along to “Tequila” and the unforgettable line: “Barry is a little wormy!” This charming mix of humour and haunt made it one of the highlights of our visit. Fingers crossed it returns next year.

Daz Games: Panic Reloaded

Back for 2024 with a revamped pre-show, Daz himself returns to assure guests that “last year was a mistake—but this year, everything should be fine!” A fun nod that sets the tone perfectly. This maze/escape room hybrid brings back memories of classic Scarefest attractions, with smoky rooms and chain-link fences evoking an old-school horror vibe. Still a fantastic experience—though the abundance of discounted merchandise does raise questions about its future in 2025.

Altonville Mine Tours: Tiny’s Revenge

Once again, we venture into the mines to encounter the notorious Skin Snatchers. While the theming remains strong and the scares effective, this attraction is beginning to feel a little stale. After so many years on the line-up, it may be time for a refresh or replacement.

The Attic: Terror of the Towers

Returning once more, though possibly for the last time, The Attic takes guests through the eerie upper levels of the Towers. Due to its age, we opted to skip it this year, but we sincerely hope this space is used for a brand new maze in the near future.

Burial Grounds

This scare zone invites guests to encounter both supporters and dissenters of the Wicker Man ritual—the “Unchosen.” With strong theming, excellent costumes, and committed actors, it’s a must-visit both during the day and at night for a full atmospheric experience.

Trick O’ Treat Town with HARIBO

Still going strong in 2024, though we didn’t visit it ourselves this year. A great family-focused option for those with younger children looking to enjoy a lighter Halloween experience.

As always, the event-exclusive merchandise is back—pin badges, plush toys, and all the themed goodies you’d expect. Worth a look if you like collecting seasonal souvenirs.

Alton Ancestors

The Ancestors return, though they seem to have taken a backseat this year. Once a major highlight of Towers Street, their presence feels somewhat diminished. A new flash mob or performance group could reinvigorate this aspect of the event.

Scarefest 2024 is another strong year for Alton Towers. Compound and Amigos in the Afterlife were standout additions, breathing new life into the line-up. While some older attractions are starting to feel tired, there’s still plenty of fun—and frights—to be had. We’re already excited to see what horrors 2025 has in store.
