Alton Towers Fireworks Cancelled and Exclusive Annual Passholder Days Announced

Alton Towers
Tuesday 29th September 2020

In a whirlwind afternoon, news has came out from Alton Towers Resort about their annual Fireworks Spectacular and Merlin Annual Pass about some rather unusual end of season exlusive annual passholder days.

Alton Towers Announce Fireworks Spectacular is Cancelled

Alton Towers have confirmed this afternoon (29/09) that the annual Fireworks Spectacular (due to take place on November 7th and 8th) has been cancelled for this year. Last month Alton Towers updated their website stating that tickets would be coming soon, however, after recent goverment guidelines changing, forcing tighter restrictions it seems that these were too much to allow the event to go ahead.

This year sees a variety of events having to cancel due to the restrictions placed upon them and with the recent rise in cases, this may have been the nail in the coffin for the event.

Any guests with bookings at the resort have been requested to visit the Alton Towers website for more information.

Merlin Annual Pass announce Exclusive Passholder Days

Shortly after this announcement, the Merlin Annual Pass facebook page have announce some exclusive passholder place taking place at the end of the year. This is a change from the normal as usually the annual passholder days take place at the start of the year, before the main theme park season starts, however, due to the UK lockdown that took place in March, the main season took a little tonger to get into gear and therefore, these were subsequently cancelled.

For those unaware of what Exclusing Passholder Days are (Usually called Annual Pass days), this is when Merlin Annual Pass, Membership holders and Local Annual Passholders are given the opportunity to experience our attractions exclusively. This means our attractions will not be open to any other guests on these dates.

Another unusual part of this announcement is that these annual passholder days cover Alton Towers, which very rarely gets its own passholder day. The dates of all the passholder days, in date order, are as follows:

Thorpe Park: 6th November

Alton Towers: 7th and 8th November

Legoland Windsor Resort: 21st anf 22nd November

Chessington World of Adventures: 29th November

Those eagle eyes readers may realise that the Alton Towers dates are the exact same as what would have been the dates for the Fireworks Spectacular meaning that the season for the general public will end on Friday 6th November, slighty earlier than planned.

Tickets for these annual passholder days will be released in two waves on the 15th and 22nd October at 3pm and have been told to keep and eye on the attractions’ Facebook pages below for more booking information.
