Halloween Guide 2018

Halloween season is arguably our favourite time of the year here at Theme Park Guide. There is just so much to love about the Autumn season at theme parks and events, the chill in the air as we walk around with our hot beverage of choice, experiencing all the frights and rides at evening it really is an enjoyable time and we always spend weeks and even months beforehand planning to fill our calendar with as much as possible during this spooky season.


Although we have already visited a few events before October here are the events that we will be visiting this month:


 


4th October: Thorpe Park Fright Nights (Media Event) - Chertsey, Surrey

About the event:


Thorpe Park’s annual Halloween event is back to close out the 2018 season with more mazes, scare zone and activities than ever before. The event has a few scare mazes based on licenses, Including two mazes based around the stories in AMC’s The Walking Dead and one based on Blair Witch, as well as many original concept mazes, including new for 2018, Vulcan Peak and Dead Creek Woods.


Adult entry into the park costs from £33, dependent on date of visit, however, this includes unlimited entry to all mazes. The escape room experience known as Containment is an additional cost and there is an option to purchase fastrack for the mazes to get you to the front of the line quicker.

5th October: Tulleys Shocktoberfest (Press Event) - Crawley, West Sussex


Dates of the event: Selected dates from 5th October to 3rd November


About the event:


Tulleys Shocktoberfest is an event that has grown in popularity over the years and at the same time increased in size, this event now features eight scare mazes as well as a couple of fairground rides and a whole heaping of food options! The event also features a lot of roaming actors and street theatre so nowhere is safe!


Standard entry with one entry into each of the eight mazes costs from £30 online, with the price varying depending on the date of visit. The event also offers more expensive packages that include fast track and other goodies depending on the tier of the package. There is also the option to enter without maze entry for those less brave.

6th October: Alton Towers Scarefest - Alton, Staffordshire


Dates of the event: Selected dates from 6th October to 2nd November


About the event:


Alton Towers Scarefest is an event for all ages offering Halloween festivities for the young and old. The event appeals to all of Alton Towers’ demographic with a section in the park for the young visitors with several family friendly live shows.


This year the Freaky Four (Franklin, Skelvin, Patch and Phil) is getting a new addition of Gretyl the Witch making it the Freaky Five, as well as The Cbeebies Monster Ball and The Freaky Funk Squad shows, which are new for this year.


Those children wanting a small scare can head to the House of Monsters where they will meet lots of weird and wonderful characters inside, entry to this maze costs £5 per person.


For those wanting more of a fright Alton Towers becomes home to four scare mazes, with two being hosted in the Towers, these mazes are Sub Species: The End Games and Altonville Mine Tours: Legend of the Skin snatchers, which are returning from previous years.


There is a new maze this year known as Project 42, a top secret military operation that we will know more about soon!


Entry to Alton Towers does not include access to the scare mazes, as these are an additional cost, however, those needing to buy entry and the maze combi-ticket (Entry to Sub Species, Altonville Mine Tours and the new, Project 42) can be bought for £50 online.


Those who have theme park entry can buy the maze tickets separately. The maze combi-ticket being £20 for the three mazes.


There is one more scare maze at Alton Towers this year, The Welcoming: Be Chosen, returning from last year. This scare maze arrived last year as a teaser to SW8 (Now known as Wicker Man) and has returned to follow on the story. This maze is £8 per person.

11th October: Burton Screamfest - Burton-On-Trent, Derbyshire


Dates of the event: Selected dates from 11th October to 3rd November


About the event:


Burton Screamfest is an event hosted at the National Forest Adventure Farm and benefits from the rural, farmyard atmosphere. The event features five scare mazes, one of which makes its debut this year, Insomnia, which is based around children’s nightmares and returning favourites such as Dia De Las Muertos, a corn field maze based around the day of the dead festival.


Entry to the event including entry to each of the five mazes starts from £16 and varies depending on the date of the visit. The event also offers fastrack options at an additional cost which is available on the night or booked in advance.

14th October: Europa Park Traumatica - Rust, Germany


Dates of the event: Selected dates from 26th September to 31st October


About the event:


Europa Park is one of the best theme parks in the world, winning numerous awards and honoured as the best theme park worldwide for the past few years and to no surprise, they also host an award-winning Scream park!


Traumatica is in its second year of operation after the event being known as Halloween Horror Nights for several years. The event is hosted within a section of Europa Park, although most of the event takes place outside the park. The story across the whole event is based around several factions (which act as the scare mazes) in a post-apocalyptic world.


The Fallen, The Pack, Ghouls, Resistance and Shadows all have their own unique aesthetic style which makes each maze unique. The event also has a Traumatica themed Ice show as well as four scare zones and a few select attractions within Europa Park.


Entry into the event costs €31.50 (around £27) and allows entry into the event and access to the five mazes.

20th October: Fear at Avon Valley - Bristol


Dates of the event: Selected dates from 19th October to 31st October


About the event:


Located in Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife park this event features four mazes, street entertainment, fairground rides (payable extras) and Kill Zone, a upcharge attraction where armed with a gun in a cornfield you are in control to kill as many zombies as possible.


The price to enter the event starts from £17 however the price can change depending on the date of visit. Entry to Kill Zone is £4 per person and can be pre-booked online.

21st October: Dr. Frights Halloween Nights - Northampton


Dates of the event: Selected dates from 12th October to 31st October


About the event:


Dr Frights Halloween Nights pride themselves as one of the few Halloween events in Europe to host a fresh line up every year, whether it be a new maze based on a previous iteration or a brand new maze concept.


This year’s theme is Horrortown, Where we meet the resident of the various “sinister locations”. Featuring Hospitals, Cults, Hillbillies and Clowns as well as famous faces from Hollywood horror history.


The maze is hosted entirely in indoor marquees meaning the weather will never let this event down and tickets start from £15.95 and fluctuate in price depending on date of visit.


Live updates: No, Due to the atmospheric nature of the event there is very little lighting so providing live updates will be difficult, however, a review of the event will be published a few days after the event.
