Thorpe Park 2020 Season Insight

Thorpe Park
Sunday 17th May 2020

It's been 196 days since Thorpe Park closed its doors to the 2019 season.  Unfortunately due to coronavirus, we're going to have to wait a little longer to get a thrill ride fix. With the park due to open on 27th March, everything was ready to launch into the sky and take guests on a wild rollercoaster ride.

Yesterday we took a walk around the outside of the park, adhering to social distancing to see if we could spot anything new and interesting!

From across the lake, it's weird to think that on a normal hot and sunny day in May the island would be a hive of activity. However, Coronavirus doesn't stop the queue time boards and the parks app from displaying queue times; 20 minutes for Vortex and 80 minutes for Depth Charge!

With Fins Bar and Kitchen getting a makeover for the 2020 season, signs for the restaurant have been updated on the outside of the dome. We now have a nice blue background with the words Infinity Bar & Kitchen embossed on it.

Creek Freak Massacre was a smash hit at Fright Nights 2019, however, the main sign for the horror maze has now been removed and supposedly put into storage ready for if Fright Nights happens this year. The exit ramp from Nemesis Inferno has had some work done over the closed season and is currently halfway through a repaint.

Back in early February, we reported that the park was going to be the first Merlin park to have a new automatic number plate recognition system installed in its car park. At the exit of the car park, the barriers now appear to have been replaced and new ones installed.

The bridge into the park also has some new small touches, flags have been installed at each archway. One red and the other blue, the islands main colours from the park logo. Other small changes we know about but can't see, are the new entrance signs at the archway into the park.

Hopefully, it won't be too much longer until guests can get back into the theme parks.
