UK Theme Parks Close Due To Covid 19

In recent days the Covid-19 virus has been all over the headlines across the world, with businesses such as restaurants, clubs, bars and leisure outlets being affected. As expected UK theme parks have been heavily impacted by this and have started to issue updates as per government guidelines, introduced this week. The list of parks attractions that have been affected by Covid-19 is widespread and it is expected that most, if not all UK leisure attractions will close for the foreseeable future until it is deemed safe for them to re-open. The safety of guests and staff at the resorts is everyone's top priority, and the closure of any attraction is not a decision that any management takes lightly. At this time nobody knows when UK attractions will reopen, but as a community and News website we will aim to keep everyone updated with the changes. Below is a list of attractions/resorts that have confirmed via social media that they will be closing due to Covid-19.

Merlin Annual Passes: 

Merlin have issued the following statement in response to Annual Passes “We want to reassure all Merlin Annual Passholders that we will be extending Passes and for our Passholders on our Merlin Membership, we will be suspending monthly payments, to account for the closures.  We will be announcing more details on this via email, our social media channels and our website over the coming days.”


Alton Towers Resort:

The following statement has been issued; “March 19th Update: We have taken the very difficult decision to postpone the opening of Alton Towers Theme Park and close the Resort from tomorrow (March 20th)”. Hotels and support offices have also been closed as a precautionary measure to prevent any spread of Covid-19.


Thorpe Park Resort:

The following statement has been issued; “We have taken the very difficult decision to postpone the opening of THORPE PARK Resort. The attraction will remain closed Until further notice”


Chessington World of Adventures 

The following statement has been issued; “Further to recent updates from the Government on the response to the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak, we have made the decision to close the Resort from Saturday, March 21, 2020. We believe this is the right decision to protect the health and wellbeing of our guests and staff. The Resort will remain closed until further notice.”


Legoland Windsor Resort:

The following statement has been issued; “We have taken the very difficult decision to close the LEGOLAND Windsor theme park from 5pm this Friday 20th March. The health and wellbeing of our employees and guests is always our priority and we believe that this is the right decision to continue to protect everyone. The attraction will remain closed until further notice. The LEGOLAND Windsor Resort hotel remains open for guests and we will provide updates on our website should this change at any point."


Warwick Castle: 

The following statement has been issued; “March 19th Update: We have taken the very difficult decision to close Warwick Castle from this Saturday until further notice.”


The Dungeons (UK based attractions)

The following statement has been issued; “The health and safety of our guests and team is our top priority and further to the Government’s updated advice on Covid-19 coronavirus, we have made the decision to temporarily close The London Dungeon as a precautionary measure.”


Blackpool Pleasure Beach 

The following statement has been issued; “Due to the escalating situation with Covid-19, we have made the sad decision that Blackpool Pleasure Beach will not open this weekend and will remain closed.”


Drayton Manor 

The following statement has been issued; “In light of the recent COVID-19 announcements and Government policies surrounding social distancing, it is with great sadness that we can confirm Drayton Manor Park is now temporarily closed, until further notice.”


Flamingo Land 

The full theme park will nowopen from Saturday 4th April 2020, but we still have lots going on in our Winter Resort.


Paultons Park

The following statement has been issued “In light of recent Government advice on the COVID-19 pandemic, Paultons Park will close from 5.00pm on Friday 20th March until further notice.”


Worldwide attractions

The Covid-19 virus isn’t just affecting the UK theme park industry, it's affecting parks worldwide such as Walt Disney World Florida, DisneyLand Paris, Universal Studios, Islands of adventure. All of these are all closed as a precaution to stop the spread of the virus, closures of this nature are previously unheard of for long periods of time. We could list many more theme parks all over the world that have been affected, but at this moment of time, almost everything must remain closed for the safety of everyone.
