Tornado Springs comes to life at Paultons Park on Monday, 12th April

£12 million new themed world launches at the UK’s number one rated theme park.

The UK’s number one family theme park, Paultons Park, has confirmed that its major new themed world of attractions, Tornado Springs, will open to the public on Monday, 12th April, 2021.

Following a £12 million investment, Tornado Springs will open with eight new rides and experiences, expanding Paultons Park’s already extensive family offering, which includes its own dedicated Peppa Pig themed world. Covering four acres, Tornado Springs is anticipated to be the biggest new area opening at a UK theme park this year. Additionally, the new area will see the unveiling of the UK’s first free-spinning rollercoaster of its type.

James Mancey, Operations Director at Paultons Park said: “We’re incredibly excited to open the gates and fire up our new rides for guests to enjoy this April. We’ve worked hard to make Tornado Springs the highest-quality, fully immersive family experience on offer in the UK. We’ve really focussed on the detailing in the new area and have added some special touches to Tornado Springs to give it extra wow-factor and to exceed even the wildest of expectations.

“The opening of our new attraction, imagined entirely by our team, is a landmark moment in the evolution of Paultons Park. I have no doubt that Tornado Springs will be the most popular and in-demand attraction at Paultons this year as parents look for exciting new adventures to share with their children.”

Tornado Springs is a creative imagining of a Midwest desert resort town set in the American heyday of the 1950’s. The concept has been developed exclusively by Paultons Park and is designed to appeal to a wide range of ages from 3 years old all the way up to adults, consolidating the park’s position as the top family leisure destination in the UK and one of the best in the world.

Guests will be able to experience several exciting new rides at Tornado Springs, including the Storm Chaser rollercoaster. This free spinning ride takes trains of carriages to an exhilarating height of over 20 metres above ground, swirling brave guests around at speed. Storm Chaser, designed by MACK Rides, is the only free-spinning rollercoaster of its type in the UK, creating a unique draw for theme park-loving families from across the country.

The Cyclonator – a Gyro Swing spinning pendulum ride, carrying 30 people at a time and rising to around 25 metres – is expected to become the most thrilling ride at Paultons Park. Cyclonator, themed as a wind-powered invention by the townspeople of Tornado Springs, is just one example of the exceptionally detailed theming created by Paultons Park, designed to immerse visitors into a magical world of nostalgic, feel-good entertainment.

Tornado Springs will also feature Al’s Auto Academy – a garage-themed driving school ride with 30 electric cars, allowing younger visitors and accompanying adults to take a classic 50’s American car out for a spin.

Exciting twin family drop rides named Windmill Towers, Buffalo Falls water raft ride, and The Trekking Tractors will complete the line-up of rides available at Tornado Springs.

In addition, the new themed world of Tornado Springs will offer Al’s Shop and Service, where guests can purchase their very own driving licence and exclusive Tornado Springs mementos; Route 83 Diner, a 50’s themed family restaurant; and two new playgrounds, Parking Lot Tots and Junkyard Junction, to cater for differing age ranges.

James commented: “Everyone at Paultons Park is extremely proud of Tornado Springs and we can’t wait to see guests enjoying the new themed land very soon. Our continual investment into the park’s attractions and facilities is a pledge to ensure that we continue to offer the very best in family entertainment for many years to come.”

Paultons Park, the UK exclusive home of Peppa Pig World, was named by Tripadvisor as the 10th best-rated amusement park in the world and the fourth best in Europe - beating all other UK attractions - in the 2020 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards. The family theme park also retained its title for an unbeaten fifth year in a row as the UK’s best-rated amusement park.

As excitement for the opening day builds, the Paultons Park team has shared 12 fascinating facts about the new attraction.

Tornado Springs is a concept born from the imagination of the Paultons Park team and their creative partners. As it’s a theme that is exclusive to the Hampshire-based theme park, it’s the only one in the world!

The Route 83 theme – that’s the road which runs through Tornado Springs - was inspired by the date Paultons Park first opened to the public, 17th May 1983.

Tornado Springs has been created by some of the best technical and creative minds in the world. Over 20 specialist engineers travelled to the UK from Germany, Italy, Wales, Denmark and Holland to build the exciting rides and experiences, with Paultons’ own in-house team adding authentic theming and details.

459 meters of rollercoaster track make up the Storm Chaser rollercoaster - the first free spinning ride of its kind in the UK that takes trains of carriages to an exhilarating height of over 20 metres above ground

30 themed cars await drivers at Al’s Auto Academy, based on the classic Hudson Hornet which cruised the streets of the USA during the 50s! Little ones (and an accompanying parent) will have the opportunity to take a classic 1950’s American car out on the ‘open road’

In total, the new Tornado Springs rides have run for many thousands of hours as part of the rigorous testing and inspection process

The Rio Grande Train is a Paultons Park original. It first arrived at the park in 1986 and has been extensively refurbished to provide guests with a new experience, while retaining a classic piece of the family theme park’s history

Tornado Springs is built in an area that used to be home to the park’s flamingos and pelicans. The animals were upgraded to a fancy new waterside home in a different area of the park in 2018 as a result. Lucky birds!

The Paultons Park team has tried and tested 50 meals while deciding on the final menu for the Route 83 Diner. Yum!

In a first for Paultons Park, guests will be able to order their meal in the Route 83 diner on self-serve screens. You’ll find burgers, hot dogs, sundaes, milkshakes and more on the menu, the perfect post-lockdown theme park treat meal!

A specialist gardens team has been working hard on site to prepare the area’s finishing touches. New bedding plants are in and the hedges have been trimmed for a perfect spring opening

New retail ranges have been designed specifically for Tornado Springs, meaning fans will be able to get their hands on fully themed memorabilia to take away from their day out at Paultons Park
