Project Rex Construction Goes Vertical
Friday 21st August 2020
Blink and you will miss it! Work on Project Rex at Legoland Windsor is progressing rapidly! In our last post, we reported that foundations for the main ride were almost complete and that we expected the building to start going up around September time. However, during a visit to the park yesterday a new building has started to rise in the park's skyline.

The building that will house the flying theatre has started to be built and has gone vertical. When complete the theatre will have three floors accessible to guests. If the ride system is the same as the one in Flordia, guests will sit in rows of 10 and the ride will rotate the car 180 degrees to face the projection screen.

Foundations for the two new mini drop tower rides look to be almost complete. More painting and work on retheming the old Squid Surfer ride continues, however nothing new can be seen.

Project Rex Ground Works and Retheme Underway
Thursday 6th August 2020
Project Rex at Legoland Windsor continues to move along quickly! Work on retheming Adventure Land is well underway, with the Squid Surfer completely gutted and already halfway through being rethemed. The old entrance portal rock work has been resprayed and the theming around the ride is currently being painted up; with some flame theming and some sections of the rockwork have exposed lego sections.

Work on the foundations for the two new drop towers has started, where an old tree once stood. A large trench has been dug and the fountains will eventually be poured.

The areas main attraction is going to be a large flying theatre, similar to the one located at Legoland Florida and Voletarium at Europa Park. Located next to the staff area, the attraction isn’t visible from any public areas apart from the exit of Mias Riding Adventure. When on the ride, you get a bird's eye view of the site, where you can see the pit for the ride mechanics is complete and the foundations for the back of house and pre-show area is still under construction. No building frame for the ride can be seen yet, however, we would expect this to start going up around mid-September time.

The new theme for Project Rex remains unknown since it was changed in resubmitted plans. However, looking at all of the Lego sets on the market, we believe that the area could have a Lego Factory theme or will be an original idea.

Further Site Preparations For Project Rex
Sunday 19th July 2020
As Legoland reopens we're able to get another look at the Project Rex site, whilst the park has been shut foundations for the drop towers and the main attraction have started to be dug.

SQUID Surfer has closed early with the attraction only opening for one week this season, we expect it was due to close during the summer but with Covid and park closing for a bit that got brought forward.

The old stone rock work on the entrance to SQUID surfer currently has come red spray paint on it. It's currently unclear if it will be repainted or if that section of rock will be cut out.

Legoland Windsor Resubmit Project Rex Plans
Friday 17th July 2020
Legoland Windsor has resubmitted plans for the 2021 investment code-named project rex. Previously the theme for the new area was clear and was set to be Lego Movie-themed. However, in a surprise move, all of that has been scrapped and something new and original looks to be in the works. On first impressions, it looks like it could be an expansion of the Ninjago theme.

Site Preparation Begins At Project Rex
Friday 13th March 2020
Site Preparation has begun at Legoland Windsor for the big next investment, currently code-named Project Rex. Previously the grass bank had been used for a staff seating area in the summer and social events.

Nothing major has changed yet, however, half of Adventure Land remains fenced off as work begins. We're excited to finally see a flying theatre come to the UK!

Lego Movie World Coming To Legoland Windsor
Saturday 27th July 2019
Legoland Windsor has submitted a planning application build a new area at the park, located towards the back of the park near the staff area, and Squid Surfers. The new themed land will be based around the Lego Movie film.

If approved the new area would contain two new attractions similar to the ones located at Legoland Florida. Two new kids drop towers, Benny’s Play Ship a new photo opportunity. Also coming, a rethemed squid surfer ride and new indoor flying theatre, similar to Voletarium at Europa Park. Other attractions in the area appear to be getting an overfall and retheme such as the games area and the Harbourside fish and chips restaurant. The new flying theatre will feature theming similar to the new haunted house ride.

With the project title of Rex 2021, we would expect the area to open mid-March 2021. It is believed that the Lego Movie area was planned for another location within the park however due to the location and site access the new area was moved. If approved it would give the park two closed seasons to build the new area. However, due to the location it will be  difficult to get any photo updates.
