Mandrill Mayhem Track Completed
Saturday 28th January 2023
The track for Mandrill Mayhem is complete! The spike has been installed and the rollercoaster circuit is complete... kinda. Of course, with this new rollercoaster being a shuttle coaster it can only run one train due to it not being a full-circle track layout.
With the track now fully installed the bases of each support can now be concreted in to stop them from moving, this is left to last to make sure the supports can move a little bit if needed.
Work on installing theming elements within the station appears to be progressing well with bamboo added to the console building and the tree we spotted last week now has more detailing on it. It would appear that work on installing lighting in the station has also begun, with lights spotted hanging from the ceiling.
Across the rest of the ride, theres lots going on such as the installation of fences and probably so much more that we can't see from public and open areas. It would appear that a tarmac path has been installed in a section of the area, it was previously believed that the area might have themed concrete floors.
In the site compound more metal work for a new building can be spotted, with site access now closed off now the spike has been installed we're unsure where this building is for. Upon looking at the test seat again, part of the packaging has become ripped and the vest part of the restraint is now visible. A dark colour brown vest can be seen, its unknown, if these vests will lock like The Swarm, does as never B&M rides that have vests in the restraints don't lock.
The fake ends of the track look amazing. Onto the next stage of construction, wiring up the rollercoaster and then testing!
Progress Continues Around World Of Jumanji
Saturday 21st January 2023
It's the middle of January and work on installing the track for Mandrill Mayhem is still ongoing. Work for the World Of Jumanji is progressing well with the first bits of theming in the rollercoaster station now visible, a huge tree can be seen through the structure. Along with this new tree, it would appear the metalwork in the station has been painted brown to fit in more.
Inside the site compound, air gates for the rollercoaster station can be seen waiting to be installed. Along with the rides test seat which will be located at the entrance to the ride.
Around the rest of the site, more trees and plants have been installed. By the second launch and large pole has been installed for what we believe will become the on-ride photo point for the rollercoaster. Fences have been installed by the second launch. The outline of the area is starting to become more apparent with each update. It would appear that the Jumanji area will also have a themed floor, materials for making indentments in concrete can be seen by the maintenance building.
The back board for Mamba Strike has alos been isntalled, the theming for this doesnt appear to be completed yet!
A white frame used for clearance testing can also be seen on-site near the second launch section. This is used to make sure that riders cannot touch theming or objects when riding around the coaster.
With full details for the area revealed a few days ago, posters advertising the area have been installed around the park and on the gates of the park.
Chessington Announces Full World Of Jumanji Details
Tuesday 17th January 2023
Chessington World of Adventures Resort has today announced World of Jumanji - set to open in spring at the Surrey Theme Park and Zoo - will include the World’s ONLY Jumanji rollercoaster. The World’s first Jumanji themed land will also feature two further rides and much more, as Chessington brings the box office hit film franchise to life in its wildest adventure yet!
World of Jumanji will see families follow in the footsteps of Dr. Bravestone, through a whole world of adventures to locate the Jaguar’s Eye Jewel, lift the curse and save Jumanji.
The first adventure, and the World’s ONLY Jumanji rollercoaster, Mandrill Mayhem, will sweep up riders in the long arms of a mandrill, as the horde whisks those from just 1.2m tall around the sites of Jumanji, all while dodging the hazards of the jungle. The most fearsome of all the wild animals, the mandrills are unpredictable and will launch at full speed through the treetops, flipping upside down on a hair-raising adventure, spiralling to the summit of the 55ft tall Jaguar Shrine. Glimpse the Jaguar’s Eye Jewel glow before falling and braving the adventure again… backwards.
Not just the World’s ONLY Jumanji rollercoaster, Mandrill Mayhem is a winged, launch, shuttle ride, with an inversion – a first for Chessington, which last introduced a rollercoaster back in 2004.
Two further adventures in World of Jumanji will await families…
Dodge the fangs of the black mamba on a dizzying, untameable ride in the bazaar, Mamba Strike. Then swerve a herd of stampeding ostriches on a whirlwind ride in the dunes on Ostrich Stampede.
The single largest investment in Chessington’s history, World of Jumanji will also feature a maze of pathways – some trickier to navigate than others – based on the iconic Jumanji board game. Themed food, drink and merchandise will also be on offer.
Complementing the above, six NEW Jumanji themed bedrooms will be introduced to the Chessington Safari Hotel as well.
Scott O’Neil, CEO of Merlin Entertainments, which operates Chessington, said:
“We look forward to Welcome-ing you to the Jungle this spring, as the amazing World of Jumanji opens at Chessington World of Adventures Resort. Families should prepare to be turned upside down… literally, as the first NEW rollercoaster in nearly 20 years at the Resort has a twist, turn and flip that will have you holding on to your seat! This is the Next Level for families wanting to explore the ultimate adventure together.”
Visit Chessington.com/Jumanji for updates and to book to be the first to sleep in the NEW Jumanji themed Hotel bedrooms from Saturday April 1, ahead of World of Jumanji opening.
World of Jumanji at Chessington World of Adventures Resort follows a global agreement between Resort operator, Merlin Entertainments, and Columbia Pictures Location Based Entertainment
World of Jumanji Mandrill Mayhem Trains Delivered And Installed
Friday 13th January 2023
It's a big day for Project Amazon / World of Jumanji, the trains for the new B&M rollercoaster (rumoured to be named Mandril Mayhem) have been delivered and fitted to the track! Currently sitting on the break run the trains are still covered with black bags.
The trains look similar to The Swarm at Thorpe Park but with one difference, the last row of the train is backward facing. Dare you brave it backwards? Or do we call it the front row when it climbs the spike and completes the layout?
Around the rest of the site, not much seems to have happened. Another section of track has been installed on the back of the station. No sign of the spike being installed yet with the track for that section still sitting in the site compound. And the huge entrance portal for the area has been installed.
World Of Jumanji Rollercoaster Track 90% Completed
Friday 23rd December 2022
It's time for our last look at the World of Jumanji before the year closes! The progress this new area has made over the past few months has been crazy, we've gone from an old picnic filled to a brand new and exciting area opening in 2023.
Track installation for the rollercoaster rumoured to be named, Mandrill Mayhem has continued with the helix and fake end of the track installed along with the corner after the inversion completed. With these sections of track now installed and bolted together, we're looking at 90% of the rollercoaster now installed with only the spike left! With the Christmas holidays just around the corner, we expect the site has now closed until January.
Work on installing the spinning flat ride Ostrich Stampede appears to have almost been completed! Since our last look at the flat ride, seats have been installed and we've had a glimpse at some of the theming for the attraction such as painted seats and a section of theming located on the back of the middle seat. A big package can be seen next to the ride which we believe is the ride plc. (The brains and control system for the ride)
Around the rest of the area, more planting has been installed, and work on building a huge building presumably for on-ride photos or a mini shop continues near Mamba Strike. Work on installing theming inside the ride station has also begun with themed wooden walls seen near the staircases which will allow guests to access both sides of the station.
A huge shipping container has also been lifted into place into the area, with an interesting front to it. It appears that the front car from Ripsaw's old console building at Alton Towers is being reused and given a new lease of life as theming for the World of Jumanji at Chessington.
This will be our last construction update for 2022, we can't wait to see this area open next year!
