Liseberg Oceana Waterpark Construction Site Tour

Liseberg
Monday 24th April 2023

Liseberg is currently 3 years into building their brand new waterpark located next door to Grand Curiosa which opened on Saturday 22nd April 2023.

The new waterpark called Oceana has been under construction since 2020. This might sound like a long time in the works but with the removal of buildings that were already there and new foundations etc and covid, the park has done an amazing job so far.

In partnership with European Coaster Club, Liseberg offered limited places tours of Oceana to show off the progress inside.

We started off our tour with a presentation. showing some designs for the waterpark along with some of the back story behind the hotel and waterpark. Inside the waterpark, there will be a family water play area, slides and a wave pool. Along with restaurants and a bar. In the future, the park is already looking into adding more slides and a swim-up bar outside along with a hot tub.

Before we began our tour we had talks with different people in the project team who talked about the water park running on 2-time slots and then maybe expanding that to 3-time slots during the busy summer months. Its also been confirmed that the waterpark will run on a wristband system similar to Rulantcia at Europa Park.

Putting on our hard hats and high-vis jackets we headed to the construction site. Our first stop was the lobby area which will be home to a shop and a cafe accessible to everyone, even if you're not visiting the waterpark. It might look like a concrete jungle at the moment but with Liseberg's history of theming its attractions, it's going to look very different in a few months when it opens in 2024.

Walking around Oceana, work on installing plumbing for the showers, changing rooms and guest facilities is underway. Hotel guests will have their own changing rooms and entry into the waterpark.

Inside the main waterpark area, we were amazed at how huge the space is, the first impression of this waterpark is going to be amazing when it is finished. We were lucky enough to see them installing a section of water slide during our tour.

Looking high from above from the hotel, we can see work on phase 2 the outside lazy river area has already begun. The project team have already said they want to get the inside area completed first and then get the outside area done.

Oceana is going to be a huge investment and we can't wait to see it finished.
