Thorpe Park Installs Automatic Number Plate Recognition System

Thorpe Park
Thursday 6th February 2020

Thorpe Park has been chosen to be the first Merlin theme park to have new car park technology. The installation of ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) will dramatically improve the guest experience of the busy car parks. At the end of every night of Fright Nights or a busy day at Thorpe Park, the car park can be gridlocked for an hour after park close. With guests not buying tickets, not knowing they have to pay and tickets and barcodes not scanning.

Merlin Entertainments have teamed up with Hub Parking Technology to install and supply the technology behind the ANPR system. Guests will be able to log into an app on there smartphone or internet webpage and pay for parking with their registration plate. Making the parking process smooth and stress-free. Premium Pass holders will be able to use their passes to access the car parks. The exit stations will also even offer card payment facilities.

The roll-out of ANPR will begin at Thorpe Park and if proven effective will be rolled out to other parks throughout the year.

Working with Merlin Entertainments over last several months has been incredibly rewarding, from working with their very engaging procurement and project teams through to the operations team on the ground. Merlin have a very clear vision on how they want to use technology to enhance the overall guest experience at all of their parks and locations. I am excited that they have chosen HUB UK to deliver on this vision and our team are ready to launch our first site in the coming months before we start expanding on this partnership. – Lee Burton, Managing Director at HUB Parking Technology.
