Chessington has submitted plans to the local council for the installation of a brand new rollercoaster and two new flat rides in a new area code-named "Project Amazon", suspected to be opening in 2023.
Since the initial public consultation, drawings and plans have been developed further and we are now confident enough to say that this could be a Boomerang B&M wing coaster, the first of its kind! When looking at the plans for the station, a close up of the track designs shows a track section that resembles B&M box track.
Sat on the picnic field that's currently hosting Wilderfest 2021, this area, if approved, would become the home of the first new rollercoaster at the park since 2004 and the first rollercoaster at Chessington to have an inversion.
The rollercoaster station would run parallel to the pathway that runs down the side of The Vampire, next to the Blue Barnacle. No name looks to have been decided yet, but it is expected from looking at the plans that this will also be a launched rollercoaster.
The layout appears to send guests backwards up a small spike, then launching them further around the track. Guests will be taken on a journey through a small barrel roll inversion, over a new entrance feature, then travelling around a small spiral around a new main piece of theming for the area. Then when reaching 0mph the ride will roll backwards and do the same journey again! The station for the ride will also be covered, which is a change since the first public consultation, there will also be two sides of the station, A and B. It is also expected that the ride will have a pre-show before boarding and a shop at the exit.
Not only is there a new rollercoaster in "Project Amazon", but two new flat rides. Currently named Children's Ride A and B, these two rides will be a great addition to the park's lineup. By looking at the plans, these two new rides look to be like a Miami side sweeper and some sort of carousel-style ride.
No theme is officially revealed for the new area, but there are some colour schemes for the main theming element that the rollercoaster would half travel up. One planning application document that looks interesting is an overview of the whole area, where in the middle there's some winding paths that look similar to the board game in the film Jumanji.
